Unholy Embrace a vampire novel by Neil Benson - meeting with a vampire in Central Park

Frank runs into an old enemy

When I turned around, Viscount D'Alessio stood ten feet in front of me. The hairs on the back of my neck rose. My body froze and my heart beat against my chest.

“Fancy meeting you here,” he said with a malicious smile.

“What do you want?” My voice cracked. I felt perspiration forming on my forehead.

“An opportunity to chat with you, become better acquainted.” His smile widened, making his teeth more obvious, as he stepped toward me. I looked around and saw no one. I turned and ran, but I hadn't gone ten strides when I found him in front of me.

“Running won't save you, and your precious little tart isn't here to rescue you.” He grabbed my throat before I could take a step, holding me off the ground. “It's time to have the dinner I promised myself the last time we met.”

He pulled me into the bushes when I heard a voice shout, “Stop. Police. Neither of you move.” A large man walked towards us. In his left hand he held his police shield. With his right he pointed a large revolver at us.

“What a bother.” The Viscount tossed me into the bushes. “I'll take care of you next. Make a move and your death will be slow and excruciating.” He raised his hands as he walked towards the officer.

Unholy Embrace vampire novel by Neil Benson - a fight to death with werewolves

Nessa and Frank have an encounter with werewolves of the worst kind.

Nessa ran at a werewolf that charged her. They collided and fell to the ground.

The creature staggered from the impact, and she grabbed it by the throat with both hands. It thrust its jaw out, trying to bite her face with its large canines.

She pushed its head back until the creature couldn't reach her with its mouth.

The werewolf grabbed at her arms to no avail as she tightened her grip until she broke its neck. Nessa pushed the werewolf to the ground, stood over it, and snarled. The moonlight revealed blood dripping from her fangs.

I scanned the area to check for more werewolves. Seeing none, I took a deep breath and realized my shirt was wet. When I put my hand to my chest, I felt the warm, clotting fluid mingled with tufts of hair. I was glad my stomach was empty when I gagged. I started to speak to Nessa when I saw her turn and walk toward the other side of the building. I went around the car, following a step behind but parallel to her.

A cloud covering the moon prevented me from seeing what caught her attention. When the cloud passed, the moonlight revealed a huge, heavily muscled werewolf, seven feet tall. The creature growled, revealing three inch-long, curved canines that came to sharp points. The enraged werewolf was the alpha male ...

Eternal Lovers - poem of vampire lovers

From the moment I awake,
my thoughts are of you.
You took my life,
and made me immortal.

Our lives are entwined,
never to part.
Together in bed,
always so close.

You turn to face me,
and my love pours forth.
When you touch my face,
our loving begins.

Your tender kiss,
a nectar of sweet love.
The caress of my body,
sets me aflame.

Our passion grows greater,
at the press of our breasts.
You touch me deeply,
and I'm open to you.

Your fangs flick lightly,
on my sensitive place.
Only a moment more,
and sweet ecstasy is mine.

Now my turn to pleasure you,

and our love is complete.

Unholy Embrace vampire novel by Neil Benson -loving a vampire

Frank, a mortal,  thinks heavily on an emotional commitment to his girlfriend, a vampire.

After leaving her apartment, I was outside walking toward Central Park within five minutes. If I took too long to decide, our relationship would end. Nessa had been lonely for over four hundred years. She made a choice about me, perhaps impulsively, but now I knew how much I meant to her. She would be devastated if I rejected her, and I had no wish to be the cause of such pain. But I also needed to consider the risks involved.

I walked along the outside of the park until I found myself in front of the Museum of Natural History. For all the information it contained, it didn't have displays about creatures the visitors were better off not knowing. Nessa, werewolves, and demons didn't exist in any of the museum's catalogs. However, she was also a woman, one that aroused the strongest feelings I had ever experienced. Should I make a commitment based mostly on feelings? I was always so rational. To go with her was to step into the unknown and far beyond my comfort zone.

When I looked at my watch, I saw five hours remained until dawn. For once in my life I decided to go where my heart led. I walked south until I hailed a cab, and in a few minutes I was back at her apartment. The strong need I felt to be with her contrasted with how I felt two hours ago. Time is not measured in minutes or hours but by the manner in which we experience our lives. When I stood in front of her door, I knew my decision.

Unholy Embrace a vampire novel by Neil Benson - in the eyes of a vampire

A mortal, Frank, enters a wannabe vampire bar in Manhattan and finds himself scrutinized by a beautiful real vampire.

“You're not an overgrown boy or a self-styled stud eager to add me to his sexual trophy case.”

“You can tell that just by looking at me?”

“That and much more.”

“Okay, tell me what you know.” Her gaze caught mine as I issued the challenge.

“You're an architect in his mid-thirties who would rather be a painter,” she said without hesitation. She leaned back in her chair, steepling her fingers, her bright green eyes studying my every move.

“How do you know that?” Was she a mind reader or something?“There are traces of light green ocher paint under the nails of your index and middle fingers on your right hand.” I couldn't see anything, even when I held my nails under a light.

“I have excellent vision, especially at night.”

“There's nothing there to see,” I said.

“You failed to wash off all the ocher and pale yellow egg tempera paint you used.” She licked her lips.

Nessa had just described the colors I had been working with earlier in the evening. “I don't know how you guessed what I was using, but there's no way anyone could see the paint in this dim light.”

“A vampire could.” She leaned forward, opening her mouth, and showing the tips of sharp pointed fangs.

“Are those real?” I asked in a voice barely a croak. My heart beat faster and the hairs on the nape of my neck stood up.

Unholy Embrace vampire novel by Neil Benson - An Excerpt: the confrontation with the demon

Frank, deceived by the demon, opens the door and all hell breaks loose.

“Frank, I told you not to unlock the door,” Nessa said.

When the demon turned to face her, she reached inside her pocket and withdrew gold powder she threw at it. The demon put its hands in front of its face and shook its head. Nessa threw more powder at the creature and chanted in Latin. The Huli Jing was unable to move, and smoke came off its body and arms. She threw more powder on the demon while she continued chanting. The demon, covered in the fine gold powder, hunched its shoulders while contracting into a tighter mass. As it did so, the smoke continued to increase.

Nessa pulled a silver dagger out of her coat and stabbed the demon in the chest. It emitted a loud, “Hhhhcccchhh,” sound. Greenish fluid flowed down its chest, but the hole made by the knife closed up.

She stabbed at it again. This time the demon grabbed the end of the dagger, broke it off, and tossed it away. Nessa clenched her fist.

The Huli Jing shook its body. Some of the fine gold powder flew into the air, and smoke coming off it decreased. The demon became brighter and brighter, until it was almost impossible to look at. The creature hissed at Nessa, and she bared her fangs and snarled.

Her knees buckled, and she pulled her cape over her head. The light created by the demon intensified, and Nessa fell backward into what remained of the doorway. The demon struggled to move towards her, hindered by the remaining golden dust on it.

Psychic Vampires: Psychic Nonsense by Neil Benson

The concept of psychic vampires is not new and is a popular item of discussion on Internet vampire sites, as well as among certain segments of the adult population. After reading descriptions of psychic vampires and what constitutes psychic vampirism on over a dozen web sites, I continue to conclude there is no such thing as psychic vampirism, at least in the manner in which it is discussed and described at large.

No one presents any substantive evidence that psychic vampirism exists. Discussions of people with fatigue, or even chronic fatigue syndrome, and other ailments can easily be explained by psychological and physical processes bearing no relationship to psychic vampirism. Another hole in the psychic vampirism myth is the fact that the description of psychic vampires and psychic vampirism has at best marginal continuity. In a number of instances, the focus of explaining persons who allegedly practice psychic vampirism is on certain personality types who, to borrow an often used phrase, "Suck the energy" out of other people.

I am fully aware that there are people who can "suck the energy" out of other people. I have personally experienced them, and for a number of years, worked for such a person. However these people’s actions can be more easily explained by psychological disturbances well described in the DSM IVR.

http://www.psychiatryonline.com/referral.aspx?gclid=CO-gstrv15kCFQKenAodJ101XA

Such people usually have significant personality disorders such as narcissism, paranoia, and are frequently psychopaths, or psychopathic to some degree. They are very needy people who seem to suck the oxygen out of the air in a room and make almost everyone who comes into contact with them feel worse for the experience. When they are in positions of power, they are most lethal, and the best way to escape the harm they can cause is to change jobs. However, if one has the necessary grit and assertiveness, such persons can be put in their place and rendered relatively harmless to the person doing so.

The other, more exotic, form of psychic vampirism is related to the taking of energy from another person. The terms prana and chakras are used as if they are proven scientific facts with a host of substantial research and literature behind them. Such does not exist. While work has been done with Kirlian photography it is far from a precise science, and no one has used it to demonstrate how psychic vampirism works. While I personally believe that psychic energy exists, my readings of Eastern literature convince me there are very few people capable of actually taking the product, electrical energy, or life force from another person. Persons that could do this would probably be found in monasteries in Japan and China, various places in India, and high in the Tibetan Himalayas, and not in the mosh pits of night clubs catering to wanna be vampires. While a number of people from Western society have learned what the East has to offer, the people capable of teaching advanced use of drama and energy would have little inclination to harm another person, or teach another person how to do so.

This is far from a full treatise on this subject. But there are many gullible young adults who are all too eager to believe that such exotic things exist. The belief that "real vampires" of any sort to exist among us has existed for a long time. The current popularity of such beliefs will be discussed in a future post. I have been writing vampire and horror short stories for over six years, and have a publsihed vampire novel. I have done much reading about vampires including the interesting books by Katherine Ramsland, Ph.D. None of what I read made me more inclined to believe that "there are real vampires." But it is fun to write and talk about the subject of vampires. In the meantime, poor Sookie has to rescue her finacee Bill from the clutches of the evil ones in Mississippi.
